There is no reliable number of days for every porch. An intact, uncarved pumpkin generally holds up longer than a carved one, but its starting condition and the conditions at your door matter. Mother Pam does not promise that a September installation will stay unchanged through Halloween or Thanksgiving.
An outdoor porch is not a storage room
You may see storage advice that says pumpkins can keep for months. That advice describes controlled storage, not a display exposed to sun, rain, wildlife, and changing temperatures. Illinois Extension recommends a cool, dark place for storage. It is not a Cincinnati porch lifespan forecast.
Decide which part of fall matters most to you: the first gathering, an October weekend, or Halloween. Then choose an installation window with that occasion in mind. A later date changes when the display begins; it does not guarantee a particular finish date.
Keep the rind intact
Cuts and broken stems create openings where decay can begin. Illinois Extension advises choosing pumpkins without soft spots, mold, holes, or open cuts and carrying them by the body rather than the stem. Carving opens the pumpkin and starts moisture loss, so save any separate jack-o’-lantern project for close to the occasion.
Mother Pam supplies an uncarved natural-material display. Please tell Mother Pam before installation about delicate or recently finished surfaces, irrigation near the porch, or any concern about where the pieces will sit.
Watch the display, especially after weather changes
Check the visible pieces and the surface around them for changes. Pay particular attention after rain, an irrigation cycle, or a cold night. University of Minnesota Extension describes water-soaked areas and depressions as possible signs of chilling injury. A photograph alone cannot establish the cause of every soft or discolored spot.
Sun exposure, heat, moisture, and wildlife can all change a natural display. Routine monitoring, watering, and refresh visits are not included. Do not rearrange a heavy or unstable grouping to chase a better position; contact Mother Pam if the placement needs attention.
Remove a deteriorating piece safely
If you can do so safely, promptly remove anything leaking, moldy, collapsing, or significantly soft. Keep the entrance and steps clear. You do not need permission to remove a deteriorating piece, and you should not wait for the season-end pickup route.
If the piece is heavy, supports other pieces, or is difficult to reach, leave the grouping alone. Keep people and pets clear and contact Mother Pam for help. Natural materials may release moisture or mark the surface beneath them.
A care issue and an installation concern deserve different reviews
Contact Mother Pam if something appears damaged at installation, pieces seem to be missing, the display does not match the package ordered, or you think the work damaged your property. Email photos within 48 hours if possible. You may still contact her if you discover a concern later.
Mother Pam reviews the order, photos, installation details, and relevant conditions before deciding what happened and what solution is appropriate. The 48-hour photo request does not remove your rights. Ordinary aging is not a promise of season-long replacement, and a care guide does not replace the customer terms.
Optional pickup is the season’s exit, not a maintenance plan
Pickup is a separate package choice. It covers Mother Pam-supplied materials in the agreed display area on the scheduled route; customer-added décor is not included. It does not include routine refresh visits or permission to leave deteriorating materials in place.
